'THE SECRET' IS NO SECRET

You’ve seen it in the paper, on TV and you have most certainly heard about it on the radio.

It is controversial, it’s abstract and no, it’s not really a secret but how did a so called “secret” manage to find its way to the boom box of Oprah and receive worldwide attention?

Take a well trained media mogul, mould her with a production company and finish it off with a team of professional media, film and TV experts and voila you have the secret formula.

The facts;

Author Rhonda Byrne, ex-senior producer for Nine Network with over 20 years commercial television production, owner of Prime Time Productions, an independent film company founded by Rhonda in 1994. Her Prime Time Productions crew includes none other than ex-Nine Network people Drama Producer, Paul Harrington and of course the unit manager for Australia’s prime time current affair program, Glenda Bell.

Is it really any wonder The Secret was able to secure national and international coverage with all these key connections coming together, all of them with their own media contacts and experience to build the perfect PR cake?

The point is, the idea, the concept…not really important. How so? Ask yourself what is The Secret? A way of thinking, well haven’t we always thought? A way of positive thinking? I think we all knew positive thinking was “in” well before a book told us to think it.

The most interesting thing to learn from The Secret is that sometimes it’s not always about a new idea or even a great idea. Sometimes it is just about the contacts and the team.

Great ideas have gone unnoticed in the media world, a producer or editor who didn’t have time to read a press release, a good idea given the flick because it looked somewhat “dodgy” from a badly written press release, whatever the reason, a great idea down the gurgler because it wasn’t given the time of day.

The media hype around The Secret just goes to show us the real importance of having a talented team behind an idea..any idea! A talented team to make sure the idea is great across all levels, which includes making sure the idea has PR merit, it’s PR friendly and of course that the information lands in front of the right people at the right time. Thank you Oprah.
