PR’s next guru- Are you it?! Enter the Square One PR Internship Competition.

Want the chance to work at one of Melbourne’s most exciting PR firms? Square One PR is a boutique consultancy based just around the corner from the ever- trendy Chapel Street and we are on the look out for PR’s latest talent.

You will be vibrant, confident, realistic, sensible and a team member with the ability to work solo. We appreciate applicants with experience but understand experience isn’t everything, so impressive applications may override those backed by experience if they show real PR potential.

Think you've got what it takes to work with a diverse and demanding client portfolio? The right applicant will experience a rewarding internship and ideally they will be in their second or third year at uni or have relevant life skills. Interns who show incredible client management skills and quirky news-grabbing (but budget-conforming) creativity with campaigns may even become a paid consultant at Square One.

What do you have to do to make us read your application?

Do not send us the standard university template. We’ve seen it before, it was boring the first time and it’s unlikely to change. The ‘cookie-cutter’ approach doesn’t demonstrate your creativity or effort and it’s not what we are looking for in an intern. If you don’t want to get stuck photocopying or making coffee somewhere else, you need to show us why you belong here!

To win you'll create ideas outside of the box. You'll put a box around those ideas and then think outside of that box... (Get the message? discuss with friends, family, whatever you have to do to be creative).

The competition is stiff, but if you hit the nail on the head, come up with something extraordinary and give it a quirky edge, you'll be in the running. Did we say think outside the box?

We want you to remember that the work you put into this is not a waste... you can use it as example work when/if you apply for any more jobs in the future.

Show us how cool you are at PR.

The steps-

  1. Read this.
  2. Choose one scenario to answer (see below).
  3. Answer it in writing.
  4. Present it to us how you please. There are not many guidelines.
  5. Wait to hear from us. We may even take more than one applicant.
  6. Join us for an awesome experience where you get to handle real accounts. The only limit to what you will do, is your ability to impress us!

Scenario One
Design a three month media campaign for a low-budget, fashion accessory client who wants to raise its profile in fashion media and local media. Products include handbags, jewellery and belts. Include information such as audience groups, media targets, key themes and key angles you'll use to get the media's attention (one angle per campaign month). Make sure you're creative, using very little cash (if any! You'd be surprised what you can get for free). Show us how you can create WOW: It might be the way you structure the message, how you deliver the message.... it might even be what you write the message on! Creative budget for this campaign is $500, plus a maximum of 100 free product samples.

Scenario Two
You are launching a new umbrella company in Melbourne. Overall objective is to bring umbrellas back into fashion. Detail a two month media campaign, covering the launch event/concept and media invite concept. Don’t forget to include any pre or post event media opportunities/angles and identify all target audiences and media. Creative budget for this campaign is $1000, plus a maximum of 100 free product samples.

Remember, the customer has to get results – your creative concepts have to convert into sales... it's not about winning a creativity award.

Please also include a 1-page profile, providing relevant info about yourself and your experience.
